Historical Background
Banham locks were invented in 1926 by William F. Banham, who established a locksmith shop on Oxford Street and offered a public reward to anyone who could pick or break his patented locks. The company registered its first patents in the 1940s and retains the word "Patent" in its formal name: Banham Patent Locks Limited. The company grew significantly from 1968 onwards to become London's largest supplier of burglary and fire prevention systems.
