Historical Background
H.J. Heinz opened its first UK office in London in 1896 and established its first British factory in Peckham in 1905. The "57 Varieties" slogan originated in 1896 when Henry Heinz, inspired by a shoe shop advertising "21 styles," selected the number 57 despite manufacturing over 60 products at the time. He chose 57 because he liked how the digits looked together. The keystone shape label has been a consistent feature of Heinz packaging for over a century.
