Herman Miller established a UK manufacturing presence in 1976 when the company built a factory in Bath, designed by architect Nicholas Grimshaw. The company was founded in 1905 as the Star Furniture Company in Michigan and renamed Herman Miller in 1923. The brand name was changed to MillerKnoll in 2021 following the merger with Knoll.
