Historical Background
William Morris established Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. in 1861 and simplified the trading name to Morris & Co. in 1875. Morris registered designs for his Willow Bough and Strawberry Thief patterns in the 1870s and 1880s respectively. The company entered administration in 1940 but its patterns were later revived by Sanderson and subsequently acquired by Walker Greenbank. Walker Greenbank registered "Morris & Co." as a contemporary trademark, combining Victorian design heritage with modern trademark law.
