Price's Patent Candle Company was established in 1830 by William Wilson and Benjamin Lancaster near Vauxhall Bridge, London. The company introduced stearin (a palm oil derivative) to replace expensive tallow in candle manufacture. Price's received Royal Warrants from Queen Victoria and supplied candles to the British military during both World Wars, manufacturing over half a billion candles during the Second World War alone.
