Brand History & Trademark Analysis
James Purdey established his business in Long Acre, London in 1814 after training under Joseph Manton, the most celebrated gunmaker of the period. The Purdey repeating action, invented in 1880, became the standard for double-barrelled shotguns and is still in production. Richemont Group acquired Purdey in 1994 as part of its luxury goods portfolio expansion. Individual guns are still hand-built over 18 months by craftsmen at the South Audley Street premises.
