Brand History & Trademark Analysis
Thomas Twining opened Tom's Coffee House at 216 Strand in 1706 and began selling dry tea leaves from the same premises in 1717. The Twinings lion crest, inspired by the family coat of arms, dates from 1787, making it arguably the world's oldest continuously used commercial logo. Associated British Foods (ABF) acquired Twinings in 1964. The original Strand premises operates as both a tea shop and a small museum, and retains its position as the oldest surviving shop on the Strand.
