Historical Background
Vango was established in 1966 in Port Glasgow by two brothers and a friend from school. The name is a contraction of "Vanguard Glasgow." The company introduced the flexible fibreglass-pole dome tent design to the UK mass market in 1974, which was adopted as standard kit for youth organisations including the Scouts and Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme. Vango remains Scottish-owned and manufactures sleeping bags and rucksacks alongside its tent range.
