Historical Background
Henry Nock established the firearms business that became Wilkinson Sword in 1772 in London. James Wilkinson took over the business in 1804, obtaining the royal warrant to supply swords to the British Army. The company first entered the shaving market in 1898, producing sword-steel razor blades, and launched the UK's first stainless-steel razor blade in 1956. Gillette (Procter & Gamble) owns the razor and blade business worldwide, while the Wilkinson Sword garden tools business was sold separately and eventually became part of Fiskars. This split ownership means two distinct entities now hold Wilkinson Sword trademark rights in different product categories.
