British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) launched its satellite service on 5 February 1989. Sky shortened its trading name to simply "Sky" in 2014. Comcast completed its acquisition of Sky plc in October 2018 for £30.6 billion. Sky's trademark enforcement extends beyond the SkyDrive dispute: the company has opposed trademark applications containing "Sky" from several smaller businesses in the UK and EU, including a 2020 case against SkyKick, which the UK Supreme Court ruled was not bad-faith registration despite Sky's overly broad filing.
