Historical Background
McDonald's applied to register "McSpaghetti" as a trademark in the UK in 2022, and the application remains among several speculative filings the company makes globally to protect prefix branding. McDonald's famously opposed the registration of "McMunchies" by a Scottish café owner and filed opposition proceedings against several other "Mc" prefixed businesses globally. In 2009, the EU Court of First Instance upheld McDonald's right to oppose the mark "McBagel." The Golden Arches M-logo was filed for EU trademark protection in 2006.
